The Art of Sweeping

Yesterday I launched a new(ish) project!

Process Mundane is an ongoing series of emails - designed to help those who face daily drudgery take a more microscopic look at their drudge. Gleaning inspiration from self help evangelism, Allan Kaprow and Alan Watts, Process Mundane takes a deeper look into the roots of monotonous tasks, evaluates each task, and offers people alternative ways of performing each task. The end goal for Process Mundane is to give a sense of play and creativity to the particularly lackluster moments most people tend to forget about.

You can view the first email HERE. And if you are interested in signing up to receive these, email me pronto-like.

Playground Society

My friend Scott Wayne Indiana launched a fun new project a little while ago that I've been meaning to blog about. Playground Society prompts participants to explore playful situations around them, to capture those situations with a handy-dandy camera phone, and then post them to Instagram.

Here is how you can participate (instructions taken directly from the Playground Society website):

Three times a month, a new Play Mission is posted to @PlaygroundSociety on Instagram. Play Missions are designed to offer two things:

1) A prompt or parameters to get players thinking, and
2) The freedom for each player to interpret the mission in his or her own way.

For example, the Play Mission #psStack is a straightforward prompt to think about stacking things in a playful way. But what things? Rocks? Laundry? Sushi rolls? Your roommates? And how will you stack them?

When you decide to accept a Play Mission, you can interpret it however you like. Just snap a picture of the result (your pencil sharpener stacked on top of your sandwich stacked on top of your dog?) and share it to Instagram with 2 hashtags, #PlaygroundSociety and the mission hashtag.

Let's. Have. Fun!

Process Mundane

If you aren't totally sick of getting crap in your inbox that you more than likely will never read, then the new project I'm working on is the one for you! Process Mundane is an ongoing series of emails and seminars designed to help those who face daily drudgery take a microscopic look at their drudge. Gleaning inspiration from self help evangelism, Allan Kaprow, and Alan Watts, Process Mundane takes a deeper look into the roots of monotonous tasks, evaluates each task, and offers people alternative ways of performing each task. The end goal for Process Mundane is to give a sense of play and creativity to the particularly lackluster moments most people tend to forget about.

I initially launched Process Mundane as part of the 2012's Open Engagement conference. The response to the seminar was splendid, so I have since decided to expand the project to the interweb and eventually other speaking venues.

Interested in getting a shiny Process Mundane email from your's truly? Please send me a note and I'll pop you on the mailing list.
