Marie Chouinard

Marie Chouinard is a Canadian Dancer/Choreographer/artist who has been putting together provocative pieces since the late 70's. I recently came across her Body Remix piece and, because I have been wearing an immobilizer on my leg now for 8 weeks, was captivated by the use of the various aids that were used for the piece - crutches, prostheses, horizontal bars, and harnesses. These devices seemed to liberate the dancers movements and at other times stifle them. The use of these aids create bizarre, almost alien bodily shapes and opens the audience up to a universe of dark, wacky and playful explorations that echo the human condition.

Sue Austin

Artist Sue Austin has been in an wheelchair since 1996. With the support of scuba-diving experts, Austin has created a wheelchair fit with a propeller and fins that enable her to steer the wheelchair underwater. This wheelchair is part of her ongoing project called ‘Freewheeling’, which focuses on the intersection of art and disability.
