Scrambled egg questionnaire: How does it feel to be in your position? Would you prefer to be eaten with a side of toast? How soft were the hands that cracked your shell? Did you fight for your life? Did your mother? How was it living inside that carton? Do you miss the smell of feathers and chicken coop? What was your relationship to the other eggs in your carton? Were you ever tempted to start smoking? Would it have been more convenient for you to have been an Easter egg? Would you rather have been fried? How about hard boiled? Poached?

I wish
When I'm smothered in obligation, appointments, feedings, and general whatnots, I pretend to be someone else. This someone has ample time with few obligations. This someone may have a trust fund or a few blocks of gold buried somewhere in the woods behind a particularly memorable douglas fir. This someone wears simple white clothing with comfortable walking shoes. This someone owns very little and has little desire to own much at all. This someone has no romantic or complicated personal relationships. This someone spends no time on the internet. This someone finds sufficient companionship by sitting on park benches and watching passerby. This someone's home is small. This someone lives alone with no pets and a few plants that require monthly watering. This someone takes several aimless walks each day. This someone's walls are bare save for a few pictures taken on various travels and a chalkboard with random quotes from strangers overheard in cafes and in lines at the grocery store. This someone never checks the mailbox. And when things become too familiar with the grocery store or cafe staff, when they begin to recognize purchases, when they start to say things like "you eat a lot of lentils," this someone finds another cafe and grocery store to go to. This someone has a family, but they are too preoccupied with their own lives to call. This someone is ok with that. This someone never takes anything personally. This someone has few ambitions or desires to be anything outside of human. This someone prefers grass to concrete and trees to skyscrapers. This someone would never pretend to be someone else.
