Just In

A flash story I recently wrote called Plans, now up in New World Writing.

And a series of greasewood portraits I took two weeks ago in the Alvord desert:

Animal

Miss Beckett has a major crush on a great-horned owl named Julio at the Audubon Society here in Portland. To keep her little heart from breaking, each week we pay a visit to Julio and his feathered friends Sid (the red-tailed hawk) and Ruby (the turkey vulture).

This morning after visiting Julio, Ruby and Sid, we decided to go to the zoo to check out some other earthly creatures. I have conflicting thoughts on zoos. I hate thinking that animals are trapped in an artificial environment and put on display for funny humans to ogle and snap pictures of. But on the other hand, I realize that all of the animals in the Portland zoo are rehabilitated and domesticated animals that wouldn't survive fourteen minutes in the wild.

Alas.

Here are a few visual bits from today's animal adventuring.
