There's this thing here in Portland called The Rose Parade. People come from all over the Pacific Northwest to ogle the floats, marching bands, rodeo queens, cheerleaders, politicians in their fancy classic cars, firemen, llamas, and other parade treats. All the drum banging and tilt-a-whirling is a hoot, but the pieces of this particular parade that fascinate me the most are the hundreds of people who set up tents and camp out on the sidewalk the night before so they are sure to get a prime spot.
