When I was younger and my parents left me with neighbors or surrogate aunts while they vacationed, I would come down with bouts of stomach flu, colds and mysterious headaches. I would sleepwalk and vomit on tires. I would lay in a pile and sleep long hours, hoping when I awoke that my parents had returned. I wanted my bedroom and for my clothes to come out of my own dresser. I wanted to smell my mom's garlicky breath and feel the weight of my dad's hand on my shoulder. I wanted to nuzzle my face into my dog's neck.
I hadn't felt this intense desire for home until a week ago on the final leg of our trip back east. It was a whirlwind of visiting dear friends and family in Virginia, New Jersey and NYC and with a toddler in tow. I loved seeing everyone, but the bouncing around from bed to bed, city to city put a bit of strain on the ol' Felicitous cabesa. I prefer longer visits where I can linger and acclimate before leaping into the next hurrah.
Below are pictures of the beds I slept in over the last couple of weeks. These are part of an ongoing project called Beds I've Slept in that began in 2006 . You can see those HERE.
A new bed has been added to my project Beds I've Slept In. Sleep tight beautiful mammals.
