I loathe the use of the abbreviation LOL. Each time I see these three upper-case letters blink on my screen, I wince. To fend off my petty frustrations, I have created other abbreviations to be used by those who enjoy laughter and all its varied hues. MG (maniacal giggle)

PG (pissworthy guffaw)

DC (demonic chortle)

LUIF (laugh until I fart)

SWV (snicker while vomiting)

FHWAP (ferocious hoot with a purpose)

PLID (post-laughter intestinal discomfort)

HLAFW (howling like a flaying wolverine)
