Back when I was a professional gambler, I became fascinated by chess history while doing some research on chess players (yes you can bet on chess). So today I'd like to talk about Bobby Fisher, the only US-born chess world champion. Fisher was a chess prodigy, becoming the best non-soviet chess player by age 19. In 1981 Fisher was mistaken as a wanted bank robber and arrested. The next year he released a pamphlet entitled "I Was Tortured in the Pasadena Jailhouse!".
From 1992 on Fisher began running from the law. He failed to declare $3 million worth of chess earnings in a Yugoslavia tournament, and never paid taxes on it. Fisher then went around the world denouncing Jews and claiming to be the "victim of an international Jewish conspiracy." He said some pretty outlandish things, my favorite being his accusation of Gary Kasparov of being an ex-KGB spy who hadn't played a game of chess in his life that wasn't fixed.
Bobby Fisher now resides in political asylum in Iceland.
