Julianna Barwick

Julianna Barwick's new album Nepenthe is out. I haven't been this in love with a musician in a long time. She makes serious goodies for earlobes. You can stream the album via Pitchfork HERE.

Excerpts from today's web readings...

He channeled the water through a hose from a nearby canal, then into a bicycle frame and out of the handlebars... They say in Japan that a giant catfish lives under the Archipelago, and that his movements are the cause of earthquakes... Busyness serves as a kind of existential reassurance, a hedge against emptiness; obviously your life cannot possibly be silly or trivial or meaningless if you are so busy, completely booked, in demand every hour of the day... Scores of men, women and children were killed outside Damascus in an attack marked by the telltale signs of chemical weapons.

Pulupa the fruit fly

On the kitchen counter there are 18 fruit flies buzzing around a mega-pile of heirloom tomatoes we recently harvested from the garden. Instead of killing them (I've never really been the kind of lady who kills insects because I find them annoying or unsavory), I'm going to give them each a name and hope they will soon find their way out of the house.

Here are the names:

Florida, Sedge, Luke, Delanah, Simpy, Crog, Pulupa, Hal, Iggy, Hasbah, Alabay, Quacker, Olif, Wesley, Kendra, Justine, Revenue, and Barnyard.
