My mamasita is visiting the Pacific northwest for the first time and man oh man have we been having a blast. And today is her birthday. My mother isn't much of a hiker or waterfall admirer so I will not be bringing her to the lush gorge or to one of many of Oregon's fine hiking trails. Mama's is definitely a city girl. She'd much rather walk the streets and shop and dine, so here's a rundown of events I've prepared to celebrate her day - in sparkle:
weave in and out of rose aisles in the Rose Garden
sip tea at Townsends tea house while watching dirty hippies emerge from their sleeping bus
wander around Portland's gigantic fabric stores - Fabric Depot and Mill Ends
Maybe check out the bazillion and six books stacked high upon the shelves at Powells
wave to the not so hot but tempting hookers on 82nd Ave
chomp on some Lebanese, Ethiopian and/or Vietnamese snacks
peer into the windows of upper-crust Portlander's homes
devour some of the best ice cream on earth at Ruby Jewels on Mississippi Ave
rifle through free-boxes and random junk stores across town
Eat some type of crabby sea creature at Salty's on the Columbia
