My dear friend Pilar - talented artist, avid bodily mover, colorful thinker, activist, and star, was hit by a bus a few weeks ago while riding her bike in Manhattan. She has been in the operating room a number of times, and now, in and out of consciousness, is experiencing some of the most horrendous pain and suffering imaginable. Like other accidents and catastrophes involving the suffering of sentient beings, her accident forces me to see what is going on before me with phenomenal clarity. But at the same time, hypotheticals loom; this is a blip of a life we have and a fragile shell for a body. It only takes a moment for everything to change. I love you Pilar. Breath is on its way.
