Found in the Missed Encounters section of Craigslist: To the lady taking a shit at the bus stop on Grand and Burnside,
You know, I always wondered where the hell everyone is supposed to shit in this town, or any town. No business will let you use the bathroom unless you are a paying customer, and there is nothing like public toilets in most areas of town. What if you have to take a shit? I always wondered about this. Thank you for providing the answer. Your defiance and courage was admirable, for you could have hardly chosen a more conspicuous location. And why the hell should you hide? If the city is not going to provide some means for you to take a shit in a civilized manner, why sneak off into some alley or behind a dumpster? I am always incredulous how a lot of people are really given no option but to break the law. If you don't have money, you don't have a house, you are breaking the law by merely EXISTING. How can someone be breaking the law if they weren't given the chance to follow it in the first place? To break a law, don't you have to make some kind of decision (which would involve having choices), which is then punished? No wonder poor people steal and sell drugs, there is no legitimate option open to them! No one can be blamed for doing something in order to survive, that is the whole basis of self-defense defense. No one can be blamed for taking a shit in the middle of the sidewalk when they aren't given the chance to shit elsewhere. People have to shit. I applaud you lady of the bus stop, at not shirking away in shame for performing one of the most basic human acts. You made your point in a spectacular fashion, and your unwillingness to abide by an irrational status quo is almost heroic. I applaud you.
