A story written in English by one of my former advanced Vietnamese Students: One day, a young couple decide to go to New York because they want to relax after 2 years busy for work. But when they arrive, the flight flew and it was dark. So they decide they'll stay at a home near the airport and they'll go to New York tomorrow morning because their house is very far the airport. 5 Minutes later, they fine a small house and they thinks maybe the boss of the house rent room. So they knock on the door and a old man open the door:
- What can I help you?
- May I rent a room? This night a go tomorrow?
The young man ask.
- Oh, I regret, but I don't rent the room. But if you want, I can have you stay overnight.
The old man say.
- Oh, thanks you so much!
The young answer.
And they go in the house with the old man. In the house, there is an old woman. She is wife of the old man. They live in this house for a long times. The old couple make some food and they have dinner with the young couple. The young man want to pay for room, but the old couple don't want to receive any money. The young couple go out the house the next morning and they leave an envelope on the table in their room. In this envelope there's some money and a thanks you letter. They go to a restaurant to have breakfast before going to the airport. When they tell the boss of the restaurant the house where they stayed last night, the boss shock so much. He shout:
That can't be. That house was burned a few months ago and that old couple died in the fire. I keep the newspaper. I'll show you! Want a minute please.
A moment later, the boss come back with the newspaper. The headline tell its own story: COUPLE DIE IN TRAGIC FIRE. The young couple can't believe their eyes because under the headline is the photo of the old couple took them in the previous night. They drive back to the house. There isn't any house, just a burned out shell. They stand staring at the ruins trying to understand what had happened. Suddenly, the woman scream. There, on the badly burned table, is the envelope they left this morning.
